How Tasks Are Organized
This website hosts a collection of biology olympiad tasks from four countries:
Czechia
Poland
Latvia
Hungary
Task Categorization
To keep things organized, all tasks are grouped into four thematic modules:
| Code | Module |
|---|---|
| A | Organism evolution and diversity |
| B | Structure and function of living systems |
| C | Molecular biology and genetics |
| D | Geosciences and environmental sciences |
Each task is also assigned one of the following fields of study:
| Code | Field |
|---|---|
| BOT | Botany |
| ZOO | Zoology |
| MED | Human biology and medicine |
| ECO | Ecology and environmental science |
| GEN | Genetics |
| MIC | Microbiology |
| SYS | Systematics |
| BIOCHEM | Biochemistry |
| BIOINF | Bioinformatics |
Additionally, every task is linked to a corresponding OECD FORD (Fields of Research and Development) code, indicating the relevant scientific discipline.
Task Code
Each task is assigned a unique code based on its classification. The structure of the code is as follows:
Task Metadata
Each task includes the following core parameters:
| Task Origin Parameters |
| Author of the task |
| Country of origin |
| Task Categorization |
| Module (A–D) |
| Assigned subject (BOT, ZOO, etc.) |
| OECD scientific discipline code |
| Time requirements |
| Practical work duration |
| Theoretical part duration |
| Preparation time |
| Preparation time ahead |
Optional additional data may include:
- A list of tools required to complete the task
- Gene sequences (as text files)
- Source code for computer simulations (in silico models)
- YouTube videos
Language Versions
Each task has an English version, along with localized versions in all four project languages: Czech, Polish, Latvian, and Hungarian.
Each language version can also include:
- a set of keywords
- a comment that highlights any language- or context-specific notes relevant to that particular version.
In addition to the main text, tasks include two types of blocks with special meaning:
- Answer sheet – areas meant to be completed by the student, highlighted with a beige background,
- Solution – contains answers to the questions, highlighted with a green background.
In addition to these blocks, the text may contain gaps intended for students' notes.
PDF and MS Word generation
All tasks can be exported in PDF format. You can choose from three versions:
- Student version includes everything except the solution blocks,
- Full teacher version includes the complete task text (excluding the note-taking gaps).
- Simple teacher version includes only the Answer Sheet blocks.
If you wish to convert the generated PDF file into MS Word format, you can use many online tools, for examplehere.
